What you need to know about the Bach Harrison Prevention Needs Assessment:
Essex County and its Youth Commission work with The Prevention Team to make available the Bach Harrison Prevention Needs Assessment (survey). As a NYS OASAS agency, The Prevention Team must administer some form of a Prevention Needs Survey to determine cultural and community need for prevention and resource efforts. The Bach Harrison is one of the very best in survey evaluation and methodology.
Findings of each district’s Bach Harrison stays within the ownership of administration. For feedback to the Essex County Community Services Board or Youth Commission, only the general trends based off from the total Essex County numbers is ever discussed. No school data is ever distributed to staff at our agency, county agency, or school district.
We are available to discuss/interpret findings with staff or school boards as necessary.
The entirety of the survey can now be completed online. It takes between 1-2 class periods to complete. We have found better compliance with completion and validity with schools proctored by P Team staff- especially if we’ve been working in the school.
We have a range of curricula, covering everything from emotions to drug use, to tech habits, and bullying.
Multiple curricula geared for youth from Pre-K through 12th grade.
Prevention Specialists are available at a rate of $200/8 hour (full) day or $75/ 1-4hour (half) day.
Prevention Educators can be hired to present curriculum on a per class day rate, or be hired to be present in the school over the course of a school year, delivering various curricula throughout. Our agency has found that the later allows for students to have another trusted adult to reach out to in the building that isn’t a “counselor” or a “teacher”. Our staff are all youth mental health first aiders, and can triage appropriately and stay in communication with the counseling department and administrators. They often help bridge communication with parents.
Resiliency Coaches must be hired by the full school year contract because they carrying a counseling caseload. They also can hold circle group sessions for those students who don’t necessarily one on one (or are already enrolled in 1:1 elsewhere) but need an extra boost and some peer connection. This service is also available to all age youth.
